The Best Time to Create a Website for Your Business (and tips for saving thousands of dollars)

It is great to be back - I’m so excited to be creating videos for you again. In today’s video, I want to answer a question that I get a lot, and that is When should I create a website for my business? How do I know if I’m ready? And How do I go about it? I’m going to be talking all about that, and how you can save thousands of dollars in the process.

When Should You Create a Website?

So, when should you create a website? I actually think that your website should be one of your most effective marketing tools, so, for that reason, I think you should have a website from day one. It signals that you are a professional, that people should be taking your business seriously, and that you are ready for customers.

You should absolutely have one from day one – but what I don’t think you should do, is go ahead and drop thousands of dollars getting a custom website built. That is a huge expense, and often-times I find that newer entrepreneurs are not quite ready for that. The reason is that, especially in the first twelve months of your business, there is a lot of figuring out that you still need to do. You’re likely going to be tweaking your niche, your ideal client, your offerings – all sorts of elements are going to be evolving and changing over that time. The problem is, if you give all of the power over to a web developer, then you come out with a gorgeous website for sure, but it might not be the right fit, and you might need to go back and edit it. If you don’t have the technical skills to do that, then you’re once again going to have to pay hundreds of dollars to a web developer to make those changes for you.

Do It Yourself

For that reason, that is why I’m such a huge fan of empowering entrepreneurs to create a website themselves, so that they know how to edit and update it whenever they want. This is especially helpful in those first twelve months. Not only is your upfront cost less expensive, but then whenever you need to make a change – maybe it’s just a little tweak – you can go in and you can do that yourself.

The reason we can do this nowadays is because the tools have gotten so much easier. We are so lucky to have the tools available to us that make this so much easier. You can start out with a gorgeous template, and a lot of the more technical aspects that you would have had to spend thousands of dollars back in the day, you no longer have to. You can start out with a tool like Squarespace, which is my favorite, and this is going to make your life a whole lot easier.

I think that you should get started and create a website as soon as you can. It is really going to give you a boost in terms of credibility, in terms of looking more professional, and also, if you learn, as I said, how to do it the right way, then it’s going to become a marketing tool for you, and you’re going to get more and more customers that way.
